It was followed by other developments in 1961, was applied to the neodymium laser based on yttrium-aluminum garnet), then in 1962 – argon, and, in 1964, was first used laser carbon dioxide (CO2). A common drawback of all these methods was the fact that there was a high risk of scarring in the spot of tattoo removal. Later the technique was improved and find their application in modern practice.
In 1983 he published the concept of the so-called selective photothermolysis (SFT), which has acted as breakthroughs in laser dermatology. This concept greatly helped scientists to understand the processes of laser interaction with the skin, as well as to create a laser system for use in medicine.

Laser tattoo removal definitely works but it's not the ONLY option. I've removed 3 tattoos in my lifetime. One by laser and the other two by using these natural methods http://naturaltatremoval.com/natural-tattoo-removal-methods/. I definitely prefer the natural way as it's much cheaper and just as effective.
